Prof Richard Carey Smith Richard is an Orthopaedic and Oncology surgeon. He has specific expertise in Orthopaedic Oncology in adults and children. Primary and metastatic bone and soft tissue tumours, hip and knee reconstructive surgery, primary and revision arthroplasty, complex limb reconstruction and metastatic bone disease.
Richard was awarded a scholarship at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School London and completed degrees in exercise physiology, medicine and surgery with prizes in Anatomy, physiology, endocrinology, histology, pathology and gynaecology.
UK fellowship training in orthopaedics was on the Cambridge rotation and whilst in Norwich won the Carlile medal for research looking at accelerated rehabilitation in knee replacements.
Subspecialty training in complex limb reconstruction and Orthopaedic Oncology was undertaken in Perth with Professor David Wood, and Vancouver, Canada on the highly competitive University of British Columbia arthroplasty fellowship, as well as being awarded an AO Fellowship in Trauma at the Rocky Mountain Trauma Centre in Denver Colorado and in Sports Knee Surgery with Mr Tim Spalding at the University Hospital Coventry and Warwick.
These unique experiences within academic centres across the globe ensures a comprehensive range of minimally invasive joint preserving surgery through to complex limb salvage with a multidisciplinary field.
