Fresh Start Recovery Program

Fresh start is seeking doctors for short sessions (10am to 2 pm) with a target of paying $30,000 per year  (estimated for one single session per week) with about etc etc with about $20,000 pa being tax free. We hope this offer may be attractive for those with children. We are also keen for full time staff. 

Fresh starts work has involved changing the service available for opioid and polydrug use patients. Most opioid patients also use tobacco, cannibis, alcohol, amphetamines & benzos. 

Good patients addicted to opioids need 2 choices;

Cease opioids for life immediately or
Use opioid maintenance potentially for life instead of detox.

Fresh Start is the only service to offer choice No 1; cease opioids for life. 

As a result 60,000 Australians will use methadone and buprenorphine and less than 1% of this number will be taken off opioids. 

Why does it matter!

Because close to 85-90% of opioid addicts have dependance on opioids + tobacco.

In this case opioid maintenance is contraindicated. 

This is because opioids maintain the tobacco and opioid antagonists help stop the tobacco.

As a result nearly every patient treated with 40 yrs of methadone  will have lost 10 life years.

( the 10 life years lost will be one for every 4 years smoking)
