Mount Hospital officially moves into Bethesda's care

The agreement for Bethesda Health Care to take over Mount Hospital was reached in May this year to keep the 170-bed hospital open.

Receivers were brought in last year when Healthscope, which owned the facility and 36 other private hospitals across the country, went into receivership.

The state government stepped in to provide financial assistance to Bethesda as part of an agreement to keep the private services operating and give WA Health access to hospital services when required to ease pressure on the public system.

The hospital provides a range of specialist services, including cardiology and cardiac surgery, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, and general surgery.

Bethesda Mount Hospital will operate alongside Bethesda's existing Claremont hospital.

All existing Mount staff were offered employment with Bethesda as part of the transition.

Deputy Premier and Treasurer Rita Saffioti said the transition was a positive outcome for patients, staff and doctors at the Mount.

“When we announced this deal, our priority was keeping the Mount open and giving certainty to patients and staff,” she said.

“That transition is now complete, with important specialist services continuing right here in Perth.”
