A Victory for the South West

Located southeast of Cowaramup and complete with a cricket pitch, its name was adopted by the Berson family for their vineyard purchased nearby in 1997.

Following the wise counsel of local legend Keith Mugford of Moss Wood, they chose a well-drained site consisting of gravelly and sandy loams ideally suited to viticulture. The decision was made to not irrigate the vines from the beginning, as was the case at Moss Wood.

The vines, as a result, struggle somewhat in the early years but later develop deep root systems that bode well for depth of flavour and character in the resulting wine.

Varieties planted are the Margaret River classics - Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, with smaller plots of Pinot Noir. Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Victory Point Petit Verdot 2023, RRP $55

Concentrated subdued aromas. Violets, undergrowth, ripe red fruits, an almost explosive palate structure. The flavours attack and caress the whole mouth and linger on.

The wines

Victory Point Chardonnay 2023, RRP $60

A finer style of Margaret River Chardonnay. It has a delicate smell of restrained stone fruit and spice. Elegant in the mouth, it seduces rather than attacks the senses. Oak flavour is restrained and complimentary.

Victory Point Rose 2026, RRP $30

Clever use of Malbec, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. There is a fruity exuberance tempered by subtle barrel ferments. A joyous wine giving generously of itself. Lovely to drink now and worth seeking out.

Victory Point Cabernet Malbec 2023, RRP $32

Good clean firm Cabernet fruit fleshed out with plummy Malbec. This makes for early approachability but with the tannin structure to live on and soften.

Victory Point Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, RRP $60

Brooding cassis and spice and a touch of liquorice. Typical and classic Margaret River Cabernet, finely structured fruit oak tannins that persist and linger. Flagship wine that can be drunk now but deserves a few years to allow it to really shine.
